Salice Salentino is an Italian DOC not yet very well known. The region where this wine is grown is all around the Salento peninsula. The red wine is rich in color and powerful; it ages well and becomes more mellow after 4 or 5 years.
This Salice is a blend of 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia, a sweeter wine which gives more charm to this Salice; it is a wine full of sun and ripe fruitiness. The Italian wines from this region now offer the best values, low prices and constantly improving wines.
Torrevento, the winery producing this Salice, is based in Corato near Bari. The winery is brand new and the Torrevento wines are rich, made with the local varietals and overall, quite inexpensive. We recommend this unctuous wine which can be aged for a few years.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet color; aromas of cassis and black cherries. Medium-bodied with delicious fruit flavors (kirch, red berries and black cherries); smooth and round but powerful and quite impressive for its fruitiness which endures in a long finish. Can be drunk alone or with roasts, pasta or soft cheeses. Can be cellared for 2 to 4 years.
