Release Notes:
Almagre is a small winery located near Logroño, in the heart of Rioja. Their Rioja Tinto has 6 months aging in American oak. It is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo (the local name for Carignan). After harvest, the grapes undergo a long, 20-day maceration that gives the wine its excellent fruit concentration.
For four years, this has been one of our most popular Spanish wines, and the 2006 vintage is refreshing, yet nuanced and ready to drink now. A great everyday Spanish wine and a fantastic value!
Tasting Notes:
A vibrant garnet colored wine with beautiful aromas of red fruit, spice, flowers, and a hint of leather and cedar. Medium-bodied across the palate with good complexity, layers of fruit (raspberry, strawberry and cherry), spice and black pepper, and excellent balance leading to a rich finish. It can age for several more years, but is an excellent everyday wine now. Perfectly versatile. Try it with barbecues, chicken, turkey, lamb, paella, or grilled fish.
