This is the first release of Ca' Del Baio's newest Barbaresco cru from the Marcarini vineyard. They had been tending this plot of old vines for a close friend before purchasing it in 2001. This familiarity shows, since they were able to extract the very best from the grapes in 2004. The Marcarini was aged in oak for 24 months (10% in barriques and 90% in Slovenian oak caks) before bottling. This wine is extremely concentrated with great extract giving it the potential for very long cellar aging until 2015 or longer.

Tasting Notes:

Good garnet color with aromas of red fruit and a complex palate of soft red fruit and spices. More concentrated than the Valgrande, yet very different from the Asili with softer tannins and excellent wood integration. Drink 2007 to 2015 with red meats, barbecued chicken, and lamb.
