Release Notes:
Les Douves has long been one of our favorite wines. This wine is a blend of Syrah (65%), Mourvèdre (15%), Grenache (15%) and Carignan (5%) from incredibly low-yielding vineyards (under 28 hl/ha). This wine is made with a very long maceration to extract the maximum fruit flavors and complexity before being aged in oak barrels for 12 months. A surprisingly subtle and elegant wine from the Languedoc.
Tasting Notes:
The Syrah base of this beautiful red blend comes through in its deep color. The Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan grapes add complexity and depth, evident in the nose of red fruit, spice, vanilla, smoke and toast. A rich full-bodied wine with a great structure and a long finish with sweet red fruit and pepper flavors, this versatile red is perfect with grilled lamb, hamburgers, sausage, and more heavily spiced chicken, game, roasted poultry, pâté, and meat dishes with rich sauces. It's a great wine now, but can age for another 5 years.
