This wine spends 12 months aging in casks and is a blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (15%), Mourvedre (12%), and Cinsault (10%) with tiny amounts of other grapes added.


Tasting Notes:

A garnet colored wine with rich red fruit, truffle, anise and spice aromas. The palate delights with a blend of soft fruit (blackberry), pepper, licorice, smoke and tar flavors before a powerful finish of truffles and leather. A food wine, it possesses the aciditiy for game, but also pairs well with beef, steak au poivre, leg of lamb, or mushroom risotto. Drink now to 2012.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most prestigious wine region of the southern Rhône. Its vineyards lie on and around a large hill northeast of Avignon, home to the Papacy’s fourteenth century palace. The windswept clay/chalk vineyards are covered by large round pebbles called galets. All day these stones absorb the sun’s energy before radiating it back onto the vines at night.
