Release Notes:
Château de Haute-Serre is the dynamic Vigouroux family's flagship property in Cahors. There is a strict selection at harvest, only the best grapes make it into this wine, a blend of Malbec (80%), Merlot (10%) and Tannat (10%). After
fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in oak barrels and vats of various sizes. The result is a stunningly rich yet approachable red that will complement heavier fare perfectly. The dark wines of Cahors have been famous since the Middle Ages. However, this region’s vineyards suffered more than most during the devastating 19th century phylloxera epidemic. Most of the vineyards on the valley floor were replanted, but it was not until 1971 that Château de Haute-Serre’s hillside vineyards were restored by Georges Vigouroux.
Tasting Notes:
A gorgeous inky purple colored wine with an attractive nose of blackberry, vanilla, game and chocolate aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, this refreshingly fruity wine balances black cherry, dark plum, cinnamon spice, licorice, charcoal, and even sasparilla flavors with mellow tannins before a long finish on fruit. Ideal for game, roasts, duck, stews (cassoulet), mushroom, and flavorful cheeses. Enjoy now to 2013.
