Another great Pomerol from the Moueix family. Merlot- and Cabernet Franc-driven from the classic (and underrated) 2004 vintage.
|
Release Notes:
The 2004 vintage in Pomerol is a step up from the very hot 2003. The harvest took place in ideal conditions towards the end of September before the autumn rains. It is shaping up to be a classic one like the 1996s. Beauregard's wine is a blend of Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (30%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) that is harvested by hand, vinified in the traditional manner, and aged in oak barrels. This is an excellent Pomerol from a small, quality-oriented producer in a very good vintage.
Tasting Notes:
This wine has a deep garnet color typical of Merlot. The nose is rich and elegant with earth, smoke, stewed fruit and even truffle aromas. On the palate, it has baked fruit, smoke, spice and currant flavors, a soft, silky texture and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and smooth in a pure Pomerol style. An elegant Bordeaux that will complement a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, game, duck breast, veal, lamb, and fine cheeses. Will continue to improve if cellared until 2016.
