Release Notes:
In the last few decades, many California growers have moved away from single varietal Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons and created blended wines inspired by red Bordeaux blends. Some producers have even banded together to create a French-sounding name for these wines: Meritage. The best grapes are selected and the wineries produce these blends only in the best vintages. All the varietals have to be at their best (aging in oak for one or two years) and a tactful blending is required to end up with a wine that is more complex than each original component. These sophisticated wines are consequently not cheap. Most vary from $40 to $150/bottle and this makes Corda even more of a compelling buy!... and frankly, it compares well with some of these wines at twice the price. What explains the vast difference in the price is that Corda's production is very small and it does not have the enormous advertising expenses that some of the national brands have with their classic cuvées. Tasting Notes:Garnet color with a brick red rim, the wine offers a rich nose of ripe red and dark fruit, spice, and tar. A full-bodied and opulent wine, with dark fruit (figs, plums, & dried currants) and vanilla spice flavors, good tannins and a long finish of candied fruit.
