Release Notes:
Tannat was brought to Uruguay in the 1870s by Basque immigrants. Uruguay’s unique soil and climate proved to be ideal for Tannat, allowing it to consistently achieve full, perfect ripeness. Today, more Tannat is grown in Uruguay than in its native Madiran and Irouléguy in southwest France. Monte de Luz’s winemaker, Patrick Soye, has years of experience working with Tannat in Madiran and has produced a very good wine. From low-yielding vines to a manual harvest, every effort is made to obtain the best fruit. This is a concentrated and elegant wine that highlights the personality of Tannat.
Tasting Notes:
A dark garnet color with a violet rim, this wine provides a concentrated nose of ripe red fruit with plum, cherry and mineral notes. It is a round wine with dense, powerful, juicy, ripe fruit flavors and soft, smooth tannins before a long and elegant finish. Tannat is ideal with red meats on the grill, lamb, cheeses, roast duck, and tarragon chicken. This wine can cellar for 3 to 5 years.
