On the slopes above the river Orb, north of Beziers in Languedoc, we find a perfect example of the excellent value to be found in the wines of the Pays d'Oc. Vines have been grown here since Roman times, if not before. Although most of the best red wines from the Pays d’Oc feature Rhone varietals like Syrah and Grenache, this wine shows that the fruitier Merlot from Bordeaux can thrive here. 2006 was another great year for this wine.

Tasting Notes:

A beautiful ruby colored wine with a classic Merlot nose of fresh red fruit, earthiness and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, this wine is round, fruity and well-balanced with plum and berry flavors and a smooth finish. A versatile wine that is perfect for drinking alone or with a variety of fare from barbecue to pizza and pasta. Puech Cocut is a great wine for parties, and can keep until 2010.
