Release Notes:
Domaine d’Ardh uy is our favorite new discovery from Burgundy. We just met with the winemaker, Carel, to taste barrel samples of their superb 2005 Burgundies, which we will be offering later this year. In the meantime, we have this classic-styled Beaune Pinot Noir from the 2004 vintage. This wine comes from a single southwest-facing vineyard, Les Combottes, at the bottom of the hill of Corton in the commune of Ladoix. The well-drained limestone soils produce early-ripening grapes with plenty of fruit flavors. The wine spent one year maturing in oak barrels (15% new). Domaine d’Ardhuy is an up-and-coming producer; they were recently named one of the ten most improved domaines in Burgundy by Decanter Magazine (February 2007).
Tasting Notes:
A cherry red colored wine with an intense nose of red berry compôte, baked fruit, spice, and rustic herb aromas. On the palate, soft strawberry and cherry fruit is blended with exotic leather and spice notes. This medium-bodied wine has good strength and complexity with some minerality before a great finish. This is a fantastic food wine, that will highlight your favorite grilled meat, chicken, and pasta dishes, as well complement the best strong cheeses. Drink now to 2010.
