Release Notes:
Luc Pirlet wines are produced from vineyards located between Narbonne and Limoux, in France’s Languedoc region, which has a rich cultural and historical legacy. This 100% Merlot wine is made from relatively old-vine grape (~20 year-old vines) grown in a mixture of gravel, limestone, clay and sand. Located along the Mediterranean seaboard, the vineyard is over 1200 feet above sea level and benefits from the sea’s cooling influences. After a three-week fermentation ending in French oak barrels (one third new), the wine then matures in casks for between 6 months and a year.
Tasting Notes:
A deep garnet wine with an elegant nose of ripe blackberry fruit, earthy animal notes and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, red fruits are melded with well-integrated oak notes preceding a balanced finish with mellow tannins. This wine is still young and will develop nicely until 2012. Enjoy with red meats and strong cheeses.
