Release Notes:
Montepulciano, renowned during the Renaissance for its artists, has also built a reputation for its wines. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano became the first wine to be granted as DOCG, the best wine appellation in Italy. Located in the heart of the Vino Nobile area, the Ortaglia Estate covers 25 acres primarily consisted of red varieties. This wine is a blend of Prugnolo Gentile, a local clone of Sangiovese (75%), Canaiolo Nero (15%) and Mammolo (10%). The grapes are hand-harvested, and after a traditional vinification the juice is aged in oak barrels for 7-8 months. The farmhouse is now a bed & breakfast – call or e-mail us to learn more.
Tasting Notes:
A bright ruby colored wine with a clean nose of red berry, dark cherry, plum and flowers. Fruity and complex in the mouth, this is a classic Montepulciano with well-integrated tannins, and a long red fruit finish. A smooth and easy-drinking wine, it will match nicely with pasta with meat sauce, red meats and roast chicken. Drink now to 2012.
