A complex red blend of Sangiovese and Sagrantino from the Umbria's historic Montefalco region.

Pievano lies on the river Cilitunno between the towns of Spoleto and Montefalco. Their Montefalco Rosso is a blend of Sangiovese (55%), Sagrantino (20%), Barbera (15%), and Merlot (10%). After a 10 day fermentation, the wine spent 9 months in wooden casks and a further 9 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes:

A medium ruby colored wine with a floral nose of violets, orange peel, raspberry and anise. Rich and dense in the mouth, this wine abounds with earth, spice, plum, blackberry and other dark fruit flavors. Medium-bodied with notes of leather, tobacco, tea and herbs along with velvety tannins add complexity to the finish. Enjoy now to 2012 with veal, pasta with meat sauce, steak, mushrooms and cheese.
