Pinot Bianco, or Pinot Blanc, is a mutation of Pinot Grigio. Oz Clarke has called it the wine world’s Cinderella since this white grape is almost always overshadowed by other “nobler” grapes. However, in northern Italy, Pinot Blanc is extremely popular for its subtle whites that are similar to a light, refreshing Chardonnay complete with the apple and pear notes!

Polveriera is a stunning example of Pinot Bianco from Tommaso Piovene’s estate in the Colli Berici hills near Vicenza. It is made from a vineyard planted in 1994 and trained with the “cordone speronato” method. The vines are pruned severely and the low number of buds limit the yield. This gives the wine its attractive complexity. Less than 600 cases produced per year!

Tasting Notes:

A straw yellow colored wine with an elegant nose of apples, pears and floral nose. On the palate, it shows clean and delicate aromas with a touch of spice and a creamy mouthfeel. A refreshing warm weather wine, enjoy with seafood pasta, grilled chicken, salads, and shellfish now to 2010.
