Signano Chianti Colli Senesi 2006

Flag of Italy
Italy

Signano is our favorite producer in San Gimignano, the Tuscan town fabled for its medieval towers. Although this district of Chianti is more famous for its white wines from Vernaccia (which we also have available), we were impressed by the quality of Signano’s Chianti Colli Senesi.

The Biagini family only started producing wine in the 1960s. Today they have expanded to 60 acres of vineyards and produce critically-acclaimed white and red wines as well as vin santo and even olive oil. Manrico Biagini has become a master winemaker, crafting wines with complexity that does not overwhelm their easy-drinking, fresh character. This Chianti is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown on clay-limestone soils.

Tasting Notes:

A deep ruby-red colored wine with violet highlights. The fine, elegant nose has ripe plum, dark cherry and soft spice aromas. In the mouth, this medium-bodied wine blends full-flavored dark fruit with anise, pepper and spice notes leading up to a long supple finish on medium tannins and tar. Drink now to 2011 with pasta dishes, sandwiches, grilled chicken, roasted meats, and, of course, pizza!
