Release Notes:
Vernaccia di San Gimignano is the most famous of Tuscany’s whites. In fact, this region was the first in Italy to gain DOC status in 1966 and is now a DOCG! The Vernaccia grape grows exclusively only around the town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. There are about 1,200 acres of vineyards there and this is it. What is even more amazing is that this pale white wine seems to be appreciated all over the world (but not planted anywhere else).
Signano’s Vernaccia is made by Manrico Biagini, is the first one that spent some time in barriques. The impact of wood is almost not noticeable except in the finish when the wine becomes quite complex though keeping an almost steely dryness. This is an ideal wine to have with crustaceans or any kind of fish; particularly grilled Salmon because the acidity of the wine can cut through the oils released during cooking.
Tasting Notes:
Bright, pale straw yellow colored wine with a nose of cut grass, wild flowers, apples and almonds. This medium-bodied white wine is quite soft with good grip and minerality and a dry, savory finish with some nutty flavors. This attractive white is suitable for a variety of foods (seafood in particular). Drink chilled now through 2010.
