Release Notes:
Wines Like Karas are the reason Sicilian wines are growing in popularity. A fine, concentrated red, Karas is made from the Nero d’Avola grape, grown in the barren, limestone-rich soils of southern Sicily. Unlike more commercial Nero d’Avolas widely available in the US, the focus here is on quality foremost. The wine is produced with small yields from old vines, which are grown by the traditional bush method (and farmed organically), and then left to mature for six months in a combination of French oak barrels and Slavonian oak casks.
Tasting Notes:
Karas is a deep garnet colored wine with a complex nose of dark fruit (plum, blackberry and raisin),
spice and animal. A powerful meaty attack leads into spice, tar, leather, plum, and anise flavors. An immensely complex wine with great structure that concludes with a powerful finish on fruit. Serve with red meats, lamb, pizza, pasta, or swordfish steaks. Drink now to 2010.
