Release Notes:
The Borgogno name has a long and fabled history in Barolo: records show that they’ve been making wine here since 1720. Virna Borgogno, a member of the newest generation, has 20 acres of vineyards spread among some of the best Barolo crus: Cannubi Boschis, Preda, Sarmassa, I Merli, San Giovanni, and Costa delle rose.
The 2003 Cannubi Boschis spent 2 years aging in French Allier oak barrels (both 300 and 500 liter sizes); it was recently given 93 points by the Wine Spectator.
Tasting Notes:
A deep ruby-red colored wine with orange tints. The nose is decadent and complex with jammy strawberry, raspberry, cherry and rose flower aromas. On the palate, rich, round red fruit flavors are perfectly melded with the soft, integrated tannins. This fruit forward full-bodied wine will excel with game, braised beef, lamb, pasta with meat sauce, stew, and blue cheeses. Drink now to 2015.
