Release Notes:
The Baudin Collection is Woodside Valley Estate’s
selection of premium wines. It is named for the great French explorer, Nicholas Baudin and his crew, who were responsible for the first accurate
renderings of the Western Australian coast in the early 19th century. Bonnefoy, the estate’s sublime Shiraz, honors Louis Charles Gaspard Bonnefoy de Montbazin, a Midshipman.
2004 was a particularly good harvest for Margaret River Shiraz. This wine fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, before spending 18 months in new French
barriques. Once bottled, the wine was held an additional six months prior to release. Rated a 93 by Halliday in his most recent guide and lauded by the Wine Spectator as, "Supple, ripe and generous. A hint of apricot adds interest to the mocha-scented blackberry flavours, finishing polished and refined."
Tasting Notes:
A medium purple colored Shiraz with dark cherry, vanilla, pepper and even chocolate aromas. Weighty and structured palate with great spicy Shiraz fruit flavors (blackberry and anise) integrated with nutmeg, caramel, and oak notes before a long, plush finish. Extremely enjoyable now as a youthful wine, but it well continue to develop over until 2012. Excellent with barbecues, cassoulet, steak, chili, game and lamb curry.
