Release Notes:
Alexandre le Bas de Sainte Croix was a Captain, and second in command on the Géographe, the lead ship in Baudin’s expedition, and is also the namesake of the Le Bas Chardonnay. This vintage experienced uncharacteristically cool weather at the start of the growing season, but ripened well, developing elegant fruit. Made from old vines, the wine spent 8 months in new French barriques before bottling. This wine received 94/100 in James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2007.
Tasting Notes:
Golden yellow in color, this is a very aromatic wine with citrus (lime), peach, vanilla and cinnamon aromas. It offers a refreshing palate with great acidity and balance, excellent multi-layered fruit, mineral and oak flavors and extremely long length. This is the perfect white for entertaining or any nice meal; serve it with lobster, poultry, Indian cuisine, smoked salmon, or shrimp scampi. This wine can age for 5 to 8 years and will develop gentle biscuit characterisitics and complexity.
